I cannot remember the last time I read something so vulnerable, so fearless, and so eye-opening. There are MANY deeply meaningful moments in this book – I couldn’t begin to include them here. As Pamela says “I was either the bravest woman on the face of the earth or completely mad!”
To me – she’s definitely the BRAVEST woman. When I finished Shameless, I wanted to hop in my minivan and drive to Riverdale and give Pam a big ol’ hug for her willingness to be wide open about her crusade to find self love.
By embracing her sexual, sensual side, Pamela was able to heal in ways no therapy could have achieved. She learned the difference between taking care of herself and self-indulgence. Throughout the book we witness Pamela falling in love with her whole self – and we want what she’s having!
Pamela learns to believe in her right to have pleasure – all kinds of pleasure. She let go of long standing, tightly held control along with negative beliefs about her body and her Self… and guess what? The world didn’t fall apart. Through fully exploring her sensual pleasure, she realizes something we all crave: to be cherished, to be loved, and to receive sensual pleasure. By the end of the book, I found myself cheering Pamela on while biting my nails wondering how her husband was going to react to all the self discovery adventures. Like all my favorite books, Shameless has a very happy ending.
